How to apply for a study in The Netherlands?

"How can I apply for a study in the Netherlands?" is one of the most frequently asked questions from prospective students. The process is super easy and quick. We want you to be well prepared so here is a small guide to help you with the application. If you still have any questions you can contact one of HZ's student advisors

Do you want to find out if HZ is the right university for you? Talk to an advisor!

Quick step-by-step tutorial

  1. The first step is to access Studielink. Here you will get an option to login with or without DigiD. You will have to click on the link to create a Studielink account without DigiD.
  2. Once you've clicked on the link, you'll have to fill out your personal information to create an account. Make sure to read and approve the general conditions before confirming and submitting the form.
  3. After you submit the form, Studielink will send you an e-mail with a temporary password. It can take a few minutes before it appears (check your spam just in case!)
  4. When you receive the password on your email, go back to the original page to log in with your username and temporary password. Once this is done, you will be asked to change the password.
  5. Once you get into your Studielink page, you'll find a section called "My To Do List". Click on "Add previous education", here you can fill out the information about your previous diploma (or the diploma you'll be receiving at the end of this year).
  6. After this step go back to "My To Do List" and click on "Enrolment application". This is where you select the academic year you want to start in, the university you'd like to join and study programme you're interested in. Click "Confirm study programme" once you're ready. Then you can select the starting date and confirm this as well. After this you'll be asked to confirm all of it again.

Hopefully this step-by-step tutorial helped make it more clear for you on what to do exactly.

Application file

Once these steps are complete, you will receive an e-mail with a link to the HZ International Application System (ias.hz.nl). On this link, you can submit the required documents to your file. When your application file is complete, you will get information about your acceptance within one to two weeks. If you meet the admission requirement, you will be sent a conditional Letter of Acceptance. How exciting!

Other information

There is a lot more information to be found about the application procedure on the university's website. If you have any other questions you might be able to find the answers here, or contact a student advisor.

I hope this blog helped you feel more confident about going through the application process. Good luck with your studies and hope to welcome you soon!
