The not so ‘fragile gender’

Women are still seen as the ‘fragile gender’ by many people. Although it is important to point out that we have already proven to be capable of doing much more than they expected. Even better, we are able to do many things at the same time with great quality. We also contribute to the team in many perspectives, from organisation to personal care.Lani-second-from-the-right1.jpg

Nowadays many big companies are looking for young women engineers, like you, for training and further management positions. Let’s agree, we can do wonders with multitasking.

Here are 5 reasons why you should go for it:

1. It is one of the best paid jobs in the world

With an average of €1609/week, Civil Engineering profession is one of the best paid worldwide. Unfortunately, only around 12% of professionals are women according to Forbes magazine. Together we can change that! Nevertheless, the 12% of women do prove that also women can show off with their high salaries in the engineering field, being among the top 3 best-paying jobs for women in 2017.

2. You are the key they miss

“It is not just about gender diversity, but the fact that women offer and contribute to the team from different perspectives. Thus making the team stronger and better posed to completing the project on time and on budget” (Dr. Patricia D Galloway, President and Chief Executive Officer and Principal at Pegasus Global Holdings, inc - US).

3. Women are opportunity experts

As sensitive beings, women can spot when something is going on. We have the ability of finding all possible opportunities and give them life by adopting our ideas. Glenn Llopsis, a contributor to the Forbes magazine says that he keeps witnessing women being much more strategic, focused and with their eyes on the prize. "They are not easily distracted and don't get their egos in the way."

4. Women are natural givers

We may have a soft heart, but we are always thinking about tomorrow. By helping others and following our causes we set achievable goals and consciously lead innovation. Did you know that the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge was completed thanks to the "first field woman engineer" ? Emily Warren Roebling took over his husband Washington Roebling's responsibilities as chief engineer, including day-to-day supervision and project management, and saw out the finalisaiton of the bridge with great dedication.

5. You should do what you love (and want) to do

Doesn’t matter if it is difficult or what people think about it. If that is what you would like to do you should go for it. The key for success is to be persistent.
