My first week at HZ: the introduction days

Today, August 28th 2017, the day of my new life has started! Simple day, simple tasks. For the first time, I came into contact with the university of applied sciences and with my new friends. We had to check our documents, picked up our HZ-card and we had a meet and greet with new people. Everyone was very nervous, of course. After this, we had dinner together at cafe De Concurrent. We ate and talked for hours. It was a good ice-breaker.

General information and facilities
We had breakfast together at the HZ on Tuesdays. Afterwards we received some general information about city laws, insurance, etc. My classmates and I gathered and then we had a guided tour through HZ and we got to know all the school facilities.

On Wednesday, the first activities of my programme started. We had some icebreaker games and then a short introduction about the academic system and the programme itself. In the afternoon, we had a cultural activity throughout the city, meeting important areas and historical monuments. We took funny pictures with the group. This class assignment ended in the Speyk bar, where everyone had the opportunity to get to know each other better, and we had some small talk with some of our teachers.

Factory visit!
Thursday was a different day. We had the amazing opportunity of visiting AcellorMittal, a steel company in the city of Ghent, Belgium. It was amazing to see a real functional factory, and how they produce steel.

Friends, beer and so much fun
On the last day, we had fun activities and parties around the Bellamypark area. Every 1st year student was present, along with some veterans. We were divided in teams. Each team had fun tasks to complete.

The experience
The experience of the introduction week at HZ is amazing! Everyone is so kind! The HZ staff is always very welcoming and helpful. There are good facilities which will help you, as a new student, with your study and tasks. You can choose how you'll earn extra credits with sports (HZ Sports) or cultural events (HZ Cult) is also nice.

Also, Vlissingen is a beautiful city! A very small, quiet and cute kind of city. But by quiet I mean not in every part of the city. The city center is very agitated and the area around Bellamypark, at night, is a great place for you and your friends to meet. This experience is unique, and if you are thinking about studying here, just come, you'll love it.
